Bobby Hill vs. Jose Castillo

Against the left-hander today, the right-handed Jose Castillo started against Bobby Hill, a switch-hitter who throws with his right. Hill played the last three innings. In his first at-bat, Hill worked the count. Betancourt fell behind Hill and had to go in with the fastball, and Hill crushed a "no doubter" over the right-field fence to make it 6-1.

I think there's no doubt that Hill has more potential as a contributor at the plate, but if the Pirates are going to have a lot of starters who, like Reed and Burnett, generate a lot of balls in play, it will tough to not keep Castillo for as long as he can hit .220.

I wonder how aggressively the Pirates will shop Jack Wilson this season. Wilson is on a one-year contract at a good price for the Pirates. If he has a breakout year, he may be too expensive to keep if Jose Castillo is ready to play SS and Bobby Hill establishes himself as a legitimate option at 2B.
